Summer’s here, and the camping season is in its prime. When a heat wave starts scorching the city, the best thing you can do is leaving the concrete jungle, wandering into the wild. Instead of catching for breath in the city, take a tent and supplies and head to a river bank, maybe to a nearby mountain, or near some picturesque lake. And once you’re there, you’ll have to eat something. And there’s nothing better than making BBQ while enjoying the great outdoors. Because let’s face it, food tastes much better when prepared on a grill, and it tastes even better when prepared on a grill while camping.
But the problem is that there are hundreds of different portable grills, and picking just one is harder than staying cool in the middle of the summer without an AC unit. So, we decided to find the best portable grills out there and present them all in one list. If you’re looking for an awesome portable grill stay with us and you’ll probably find your next camping grill.
Napoleon Scissor Cart Grill
The Napoleon Scissor Cart Grill is an excellent gas grill that is made for camping trips. The grill comes with a cart and a pair of wheels for easy transport once you arrive at your destination. For instance, if you decided to spend a weekend near the lake, you’ll want to carry the grill with you while swimming and catching some sun. No one wants to cook food, and then take it with them when they decide it is time for some swim time.
Instead, with the Napoleon Scissor Cart Grill, you can take the grill with you wherever you go, not just keep it at your campsite. And is good to know that the cart can be collapsed, so it can be fitted inside a trunk. And the grill is great. It features two prep surfaces on its sides, so you’ll always have enough room for meat and veggies, and it’s 12,000 BTUs power is enough for burgers, veggies, stakes, and then some. The Napoleon Scissor Cart Grill is an awesome portable grill that offers plenty of prep space, high grill temperature, and a nice cart for moving it around. And since the grill offers lots of space and a solid cooking area, it can also be used in your backyard.

Old Smokey Charcoal Grill
The Old Smokey Charcoal Grill is a portable charcoal grill that’s great for camping. It looks like a large metal bucket with handles, but it more than delivers. It is designed in order to follow the antique grill looks, something your grand dad would take with him when he decided it is time for some outdoor adventure, but the grill is excellent for making a perfect outdoor BBQ.
All you have to do is to remove the lid, take out the grate and fire up some charcoal, and then put the grate back on and make awesome grilled meat. The grill can retain high temperature for hours, meaning that with just a handful of charcoal you can grill enough meat for an average family. And it comes in different sizes. The small size is great for 2-3 people and is the most portable out of the bunch. Medium size can also be taken on camping trips, and it is great for 4-6 people. The jumbo size isn’t really portable, you’ll use it in your backyard, but it can cook enough meat for a whole party. The grill is a bit problematic if you decide to use it during heavy wind, but other than that the Old Smokey Charcoal Grill is an excellent choice.

Coleman RoadTrip Portable Grill LXE
Another portable grill featuring scissor legs for easy moving. The grill is huge, with a grill area enough for a dozen of burgers, or twenty dogs. The Coleman RoadTrip Portable Grill LXE is, like the first grill on our list, a perfect solution for people who do not want to get two separate grills – one portable for taking it on camping trips, and one for keeping in the backyard. With this model, you’ll get the best of both worlds.
The grill features two 10,000 BTU burners with independent control knobs allowing you to make juicy chicken drumsticks on one while cooking veggies on the other. The grill also features matchless ignition and Instastart™ ignition for push-button. On the sides there are two pretty large prep areas, meaning that once you decide it is time for some BBQ, all you have to do is place the food on one area, and just start grilling, not having to move back and forth in order to get more burgers, or to place ones that are done grilling. The Coleman RoadTrip Portable Grill LXE looks excellent, features a huge grill area, can be used as a portable or a full-sized grill, and features two burners which can be independently controlled. A great choice for your next camping trip.

Lodge Cast-Iron Sportsman
Another charcoal portable grill the Lodge Cast-Iron Sportsman looks excellent, it is highly portable, and features a cast iron grate. Yes, we know, there’s nothing better than putting some meat on a grill grate made out of cast iron, the taste is unmatched, especially when you have a combination of charcoal and cast iron. Just keep the grate seasoned and it will deliver marvelous meat flavor.
The grill features draft door to regulate heat since it doesn’t come with a cover. Another side door makes emptying the grill easier than eating burgers. The grill has two height settings, so you can adjust in order to make perfect veggies and meat. The grill is excellent and is able to deliver juicy and tasty BBQ. The only two problems are the grill’s cast iron grate and its weight. Cast iron is very difficult to maintain, so be careful and clean it regularly. The other problem is the grill’s huge weight (at least for a portable grill), so if you plan on getting one, make sure you are strong enough to carry it around.

The Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill looks like it came from the 19th century. It features antique design and is powered by charcoal. Don’t get us wrong, the grill looks excellent, and it is constructed without any bolts and nuts. The grill features a porcelain- enamel lid and bowl, which is excellent at maintaining heat. The Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill is excellent for camping. Porcelain means you won’t have to feed it with a lot of charcoal, and it also means your food will be done fast, in case you are starving after a long hiking session. The lid can rest on the side of the grill since the Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill features built-in lid handers on its sides. This is excellent for windy conditions. Overall, we love the Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill – it looks excellent, has 2 adjustable dampers, each with 3 vent holes for regulating the flow of air, and its porcelain-enameled bowl and lid are great at maintaining a high temperature. We wanted to put one wood fired portable grill on this list, and the Cook-Air Wood Fired Grill was the best choice. The grill is relatively light and portable and features an internal fan used to create an air flow, accelerating wood combustion and allowing the grill to achieve temperatures up to 1,000 degrees F! Yup, you read it right, the Cook-Air Wood Fired Grill can achieve hellish temperatures enough for any kind of grilling, making the grill the hottest portable grill on the market.
And since the grill uses wood, it creates just enough smoke to flavor the food and turns it into a juicy, smoked, and tasty BBQ. You have a lid in order to use the grill during windy days, or while it rains, and the handle is made in order to stay cool even if the lid is used while cooking. Char-Griller Akorn Jr.
We also had to find one kamado-style portable grill, and we decided that the Char-Griller Akorn Jr. is the best kamado-style grill that can actually be taken on a camping trip. As you probably know most Kamado grills are huge, weighing hundreds of pounds and even when they come with wheels they aren’t really portable.
But the Char-Griller Akorn Jr. changes that. The grill is made out of steel (not ceramics like most other kamado grills) meaning it will not break if dropped. The grate is medium sized and 153-square-inch, enough for cooking for 4 people. The grill is light and portable and comes with two handles for easy transport. It can achieve pretty high temperatures and can be used for slow cooking as well as for grilling. If you decide to pick the Char-Griller Akorn Jr. you will be able to cook anything not just to make BBQ.

The Fire Sense Notebook Charcoal Grill features the most beautiful design out of all other portable grills that are a part of this list. The grill looks amazing, with two folding legs that can be unfolded in one second, and simple grill body. The grate isn’t really spacious, but if you want a super portable grill the Fire Sense Notebook Charcoal Grill is a perfect choice.
The grill doesn’t feature lid, but the base where charcoal goes is ventilated allowing the coals to get and stay hot. The grill can be emptied of coal in seconds, all you have to do is to take off the grate and just take out coals.
