If you love sweeping through trails on your mountain bike you probably know that just a few experiences can match the excitement of surging through dirt, enjoying striking vistas, and constantly trying to avoid trees. Really, mountain bike joyride through the woods is indeed something special. And while there are numerous bikes to choose from, we had to talk about the latest offering from Neematic called the FR/1.

The FR/1 is Neematic’s first electric mountain bike since the company is trying to put its name on the constantly growing ebike market. There’s a new ebike model coming out practically every week, with the market becoming bigger and bigger to satisfy the demand for eco-friendly vehicles. And instead of picking a classic bicycle that has to be moved solely by the power of your feet, you can pick this one and have a bike that’s easy to drive across rough terrain, and that won’t emit any pollutant while you drive it across untouched landscapes.

The bike itself looks like a dirt bike and a classic mountain bike decided to have children, and then equipped their child with an electric motor. The FR/1 sports a 20-killowatt brushless motor capable of powering the bike up to 100 kilometers per hour (62mph), and it is powered by a more than solid 2.2 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. Since the bike is constructed with a lightweight frame made out of aluminum, the battery features a range between 50 and 100 kilometers (between 31 and 62 miles) before it needs a recharge. This is an excellent range, for an ebike battery.

Other features of the FR/1 include DMR pedals, Pinion Drive, Fox 2017 shocks, and Hope Tech 3 V4 brakes. The offroad suspension along with the light frame and excellent brakes ensure for a smooth ride over rough terrain. And really, the Neematic FR/1 is an ebike every off-road aficionado should look for. The bike is light, it can reach 100 kilometers per hour, and its solid battery means that you can take it to the nearest trail, have a couple of hours’ worth of wander through the forest, and then head home with the battery still not empty.

If you haven’t heard about Neematic, that’s because the company is quite young. It made its first public appearance last year in Germany at Intermot (one of the world’s biggest Motorcycle, Scooter, and E-Bike Fair), but don’t let the youth fool you. Neematic is founded by experienced engineers that have 12 years of experience in constructing electric bikes and race suspension.

The wanted to make something special and they did that with the FR/1. As co-founder and chief engineer, Domas Zinkevicius stated, “We wanted to create a top performance ebike for rough terrain.” He also noted that  “Most importantly, we’ve been able to integrate the motor in the frame and remove unsprung mass in the rear wheel. It is this weight distribution alongside the bike’s immense torque that puts Neematic at the frontier of high-performance e-bikes.”

So there you have it. If you’re in the process of picking up your new mountain bike, you should strongly consider picking up the FR/1. The bike should be available before the end of 2017, for a still unspecified price. You can visit Neematic’s website and check out when the pre-order campaign will commence.
