Porsche and Ferrari, the two famous sports car brands were always in the first two spots when it comes to true racing junkies. And while there are other famous brands, the duo from Italy and Germany is the essence of racing cars. We have the craziness of Lamborghini, suited for those who love the over-the-top hypercars, the luxury of Aston Martin, or the uncompromising speed coming with Buggati, but Porsche and Ferrari stayed on the top for all these years. And for a good reason. All models from the two manufacturers brought something special, something unique to the world of sports cars. And one of them, the German giant decided to push all boundaries with the new 2018 911 GT2 RS, the most powerful production car Porsche ever created.
Let’s talk about the design first. While the new 911 GT2 RS keeps the main design features featured on older models, it adds, even more, power and edge to the already brutal design of the 911 family. Just look at it, the new model just screams “speed!” with every part of its body. The huge spoiler on the back, The aggressive lines on the front, along with huge wheels and superb aerodynamic chassis have a sole statement. This is the fastest 911 ever created.
The new 911 GT2 RS is filled with power. It comes with a 700 horsepower engine, and if that wasn’t enough, Porsche decided to put a rear wheel drive making the new model sound like an untamable beast. Yes, all Porsche models feature rear wheel drive, but when you put a beastly, 700 horsepower engine along with 553 pound-feet of torque you think engineers might have thought “okay, this car packs a punch so strong Mike Tyson would be ashamed. Why don’t we put an all-wheel drive in order to make drivers actually be able to drive the damn thing?” But no, this baby comes with a classic rear wheel drive and Porsche promised the beast has been tamed. We have to believe them on that claim, after all, they are experts in what they do.
The transmission had to be adjusted in order for the car to be ready for breaking track records, and Porsche decided to offer its PDK dual-clutch system as the only choice. Yes, some will be disappointed, but that was the only way of allowing the 911 GT2 RS to show all of its potentials.
The car can go from 0 to 60 in just 2.7 seconds, but since the 911 Turbo S models were able to reach 60 in 2.7 seconds – and they have 120 horses less than the latest behemoth – we believe the 911 GT2 RS can be even faster. The car’s top speed is 211 mph and Porsche believes the latest 911 GT2 RS could end up being faster on the Nurburgring than Lamborghini’s new Huracan. If the company believes that, we believe them, and seeing the latest 911 beat the lap time of the Huracan will be a sight to behold.
The car comes with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, and a new water injection system is helping it to stay cool even when going faster than a speeding bullet. If you want even more speed, there’s a $31,000 Weissach package available that shaves off 40 pounds from the car. The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS can be yours for $294,250 (starting price) and if you want one you better be as fast as this car because there won’t be many of them available.
